AN EXPERIENCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING OF PROTECTED AREAS IN SVERDLOVSK OBLAST

В.Н. Большаков, И.А. Кузнецова

Abstract

The paper reviews the results obtained during four years of monitoring the conditions of natural objects in the protected areas of Sverdlovsk Oblast (the natural parks “Olen’i Ruch’I”, “Reka Chusovaya” and “Bazhovskiye Mesta”, and the mineralogical preserve “Rezhevskiy”. Biological indicators used in the monitoring included communities of plants, wood-destroying fungi, and aqueous invertebrates, avian complexes, and red wood ant’s hills. Areas heavily impacted by human recreation were compared with relatively undisturbed areas. The extent of anthropogenic impact is estimated and measures that must help to reduce the burden imposed by tourism on nature are proposed.
