ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AT MUNICIPAL PRESCHOOL INSTITUTIONS AND SCHOOLS IN SAINT PETERSBURG

Abstract
Environmental education is essential for the sustainable development of the society and each personality. Excerpts from federal and regional official documents are presented to show the awareness of the need to promote environmental education. The experience of the Department of Environmental and Health-Care and Human Safety-Related Pedagogics of Saint-Petersburg Academy of Postgraduate Pedagogical Training in assessing environmental education in Saint Petersburg is discussed. In 2011, a survey concerning the methodological and technical background of environmental education, its forms and educational technologies and related issues was conducted among the personnel of municipal preschools and secondary general, professional and facultative schools. Problems that were pointed out are described and approaches to their solution are proposed. In 2013, a survey of schoolchildren and their parents and teachers was carried out to determine the impacts of families and schools on the environmental awareness of the youth. Possible approaches to the environmental education are exemplified with events organized for schoolchildren and schoolteachers in Saint Petersburg within the framework of the Year of Environmental Protection (2013).
